GM's side of "Checkpoint Chester"...

 So it's been a while since I have done anything "Bongolesia wise", and as explained in the 2020 update, there's just been so much going on lately in my life that well, "gaming, and Bongolesia" took a far back back BACK burner. New house, medical injury, job, plumbing issue, and getting the game room set up and all.

But I am slowly getting back on track.

After our normal RPG session of Old School D&D, I cleared off the tables and set up an area of Southern Bongolesia, (the border between Bongolesia and it's neighbor to the South, The Fandango Republic), to see how it would look.

I started building some Fandango armor a while back and was wanting to see how the new tables would look. Plus a nice little "border skirmish" would be an interesting way to kick things into high gear.

So I set up the table... (click on the pics for a larger version to see all the "small stuff")...

Naturally in true fashion there always has to be "something" going on to get things started. So with that in mind, I went ahead with it.

Just a stones throw or two away from the border of The Fandango Republic lies the small Bongolesian town of Bungatown. This motley collection of buildings, fields, dirt roads, and vehicles that are in their last stages of life, is festooned with Propaganda signs for Fandangoans to see and is also the location for "Charlies Chicken Farm", ("CCF").

Recently the accusation has come across from the Fandango UN Representative that Charlie's Chicken Farm is really nothing more than a "cleverly disguised intelligence operation", and is actually collecting "intelligence information on The Fandango Republic in preparation for an invasion."  When this accusation was presented at the UN, the Bongolesian UN Representative replied with a long adjective laced diatribe which ended with "And your bald headed Uncle Johnny AND the horse you rode in on!", before walking out of the session.

Needless to say, things are beginning their standard downward spiral, (just like the water when the crapper is flushed)...

Meanwhile, Cousin Idi is talking up with some friends, and showing off his wheels, (A VW Beetle)...

The current object of discussion. Charlie's Chicken Farm (CCF), has been accused as being a "Covert and camouflaged intelligence activity center". 

Despite Bongolesian Govt. denials of CCF being an intelligence center, low aerial intelligence imagery has shown an increase in truck traffic and vehicular activity within the vicinity of the site.

Meanwhile...

Located on the border between Bongolesia and The Fandango Republic is "Checkpoint Chester". This is a UN Monitoring position currently staffed by a mixed contingent of Danish and Pakistani troops. Along with a jeep and some trucks and a V150 armored car, the site also has two M113 APC's. The UN troops are tasked with monitoring any and all border activities and conducting border patrols of the area. At the end of each area is a national border post checkpoint. 

Historical Note: "Checkpoint Chester" was named after Amateur English Ornithologist Chester Wellerfuller, who was reportedly ravaged and savagely eaten by a pack of wild hyenas in the area in 1907...

It's a hot, dusty, ride as the UN vehicles for some reason do not seem to understand "dust distance" while travelling in column.

International Crisis and Accusations on the Border!!!

(ENN): "UN diplomats today in general meetings were in a complete tizzy over the recent events, accusations, and name calling, between the UN Representatives of Bongolesia and The Fandango Republic.

Earlier in the day the representative of The Fandango Republic (FR), disclosed in a meeting "pretty solid evidence", as he said that, "The nation of Bongolesia had established an intelligence gathering and collection facility in the local urban area known as Bungatown, and that said facility was carefully and cleverly disguised as a place of business known as "Charlie's Chicken Farm", (CCF)."  The representative of the FR also added that "It is now well known that Bongolesian Intelligence sources are illegally gathering intelligence information on our nation, (The Fandango Republic), in order to prepare for possible aggressive, warlike operations against our peace loving nation."

The UN monitors the border between Bongolesia and The Fandango Republic and maintains what is commonly known as "Checkpoint Chester", (Named after an obscure English Ornithologist, (Chester Wellerfuller, that was reportedly eaten by hyenas in 1907)...

UN administrators report that the Bongolesian representative listened to what was called "The wild and crazy guys and their outlandish claims." and ended their reply with some obscene hand gestures directed toward the FR representative.

Words were then passed back and forth, despite the UN council heads calling for order and starting to cry when no one would listen to him or take him seriously.

The Bongolesian representative ended his reply with "...AND your bald headed Uncle Johnny, AND the horse you rode in on!!!!", before their delegation stormed out of the room.

We here at ENN will keep you updated on the issue and will give you updates as they happen."

2020 update (So far overdue it isn't even funny....)

Dear Friends, Readers, Fans, Followers, and Fellow Patriots of Bongolesia...

On behalf of His Excellency, President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah, I send you all greetings.

And on behalf of myself here, I owe you all a serious apology.
For the last two and a half years (almost), this poor little blog has languished in obscurity. It's not that I have abandoned it. It is just that due to circumstances in my life that have happened since 2018, I have been essentially unable to do much of anything with our beloved 15mm Third World African Hell-Hole.
Between some health issues in 2018, and losing my job in 2019, I thought that was going to be the end of it. However in July of last year I had a simple, yet stupid accident which resulted in a nasty injury. As a result of this, I spent the last six months of last year in a wheelchair while my right leg decided what it wanted to do with itself. Jan and Feb of this month was spent in physical therapy re-teaching my right leg "How to walk again". Also during all of this time, I decided to step back from social media for a good bit. I needed to rest, reorganize, and heal, (both inside and outside).
Despite the quietness of this blog, I have kept Bongolesia alive on social media with it's own government Twitter account, a government Facebook page, and a page dedicated to Bongolesian gaming.
But they are not the same as the blog, and I really need to get back to it.
But I am going to ask you to be a patient just a bit longer.
My wife and I are in the process of moving and doing so are moving into a new house. If we are lucky enough to get this one, I will finally have a dedicated gaming room. This winter I mean to actually set up the complete Bongolesian city of Sudekia and Port Tuziak and get photos of them for intelligence and recon purposes.
AND...we will get back into gaming in our little world.
All I ask is that you not lose faith, and keep President B'wonah close to your heart, as he does all of you...

The Bongolesian Air Force (TO&E)

Introduction:

The Bongolesian Air Force (BAF), is the primary (and only) military air arm of Bongolesia. 

While the Army uses helicopters in some of their ground combat operations, it is the responsibility of the Air Force undertake operations of Air Combat, Air to Ground Combat, and Air Transportation and Support during military operations.

Due to the economic budgeting issues of Bongolesia, the Air Force is strapped with old (one could say "venerable") equipment; much of which would seem to be more at home on display in museums that taking to the skies in this day and age.  The age of the aircraft, plus the wide variety of planes, would be a small mechanical, and logistical support nightmare for any first nation air force; however Bongolesia, in true and typical Bongolesian style, does indeed seem to "somehow make it work".

BAF TO&E:

The BAF is set up in a rather small manner. BAF Headquarters is located in Sudekia at the military section of Bomb'a De Plane Airport (also known as Sudekia International). A small military enclave at the end of the terminal for the Civilian Flights is the Headquarters and 1st Fighter Squadron.

Headquarters Bongolesian Air Force: (HQBAF): Oversees all operational and command decisions for the BAF. This is to include training, planning, air operations, and support missions essential to the air defense of the nation.

In the administrative section alone, one can hear the typewriters clicking all day as orders are made, and papers are typed.

Training Command Bongolesian Air Force: (TCBAF): On orders from HQBAF, oversees all personnel training and assignment operations, to include pilot, ground crew, support, flight, and weapons training.

With the exception of officers, all BAF personnel take 3 weeks of basic training at Camp Kill'em'all on the outskirts of Sudekia. This training includes, wear of the uniforms, drill and ceremonies and how to march in step, basic weapons training, emergency training, etc.  Upon successful completion of basic training, new airmen are assigned to their respective units for the job requirement advance training. 

Pilots/Officers undergo a different type of training (to be discussed at a later date).

1st Fighter Squadron: "The Comets"

1st Fighter Squadron (1st FTR SQDN), is stationed at Sudekia International Airport in Sudekia (also known as "Bomb'a De Plane" Airport), and is responsible for overall air to air operations and air superiority for the nation. 

The Squadron currently employs three (3) MiG-15 Fighters and one (1) MiG-21 that in full force is used as a flight leader and coordinator for the MiG-15's.  Future plans are for the MiG-15's to be eventually replaced completely with MiG-21's, and currently Bongolesia is beginning to have issues getting replacement parts for the aircraft as North Korea seems to be hogging them.

1st Tactical Squadron: "The Flying Cheetahs"

While this unit is designated and sanctioned with the mission of provide air to surface strike capability in air force operations, it currently is unable to perform these as both aircraft assigned to it for these missions are in various states of maintenance and disrepair. The Yak-38 is even considered by some to be a "bad luck" jet. It will be a matter of time before this squadron is ready.

1st Transportation and Support Squadron: "The Chickenhawks"

This unit is responsible for moving personnel and supplies from one point to another. Using the C47 aircraft (one of which is also used by Bongo Air as their official airliner), This unit is able to easy land on the more worn and less capable runways, (Lonnieville and Tomtown for example).

Conclusion:

Bongolesian Air Force capabilities are severely limited by the following items:

1: Equipment (Age, Technology, and Performance).

2: Pilot Training

3: Armament and Logistics

4: Non-existent all weather/night capabilities

5: Limited command and control

Based on these hindrances air systems analysts believe that the BAF is currently no real threat or even match for any major national air wing that is operating in the area. A full force on force action with 2 USN F-18's would result in the entire BAF Fighter Squadron being easily swatted out of the sky. 

However, there are always "lucky shots", and the BAF is dedicated to improving their capabilities. 

Update: An extremely long delay and explanation....

Dear Readers and Followers of "The Bongolesia Blog":

I send this note to you as an apology for the lengthy delay in updating this site.
As you are aware of, our little blog here was not updated at all in 2015, and we are moving onto 2016 with no real updates.
For this I apologize.
On the gaming side, for the past two years I have been horribly absorbed with 28mm figures, (Pulp, Horror, Colonials), etc..and thus my 15mm African "paradise" has languished in obscurity.
It's the curse of mini-gamers as we flight from place to another.

Secondly, I have been thinking hard and long about "redesigning Bongolesia".
In essence, changing around some of the country and the look of this blog to make it more attractive and appealing to the eye.

I am currently tinkering with a draft on Wordpress but am not sure if I am going that route, or if I will just change the blogger/blogspot site we have here.

I am also looking at setting up a mirror site for Bongolesia's neighbor to the South, "The Fandango Republic", and allowing more international hi-jinks.

In short, I have a lot of things I want to do but so little time to actually DO them.

And for this and keeping you in the dark I do apologize.

I plan on reviving this site later on this summer.

Even now as I speak, word is being spoken of Fandango Armor being moved up North towards the border....

HAPPY NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!

NATION CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE AND PROSPERITY!

(Sudekia)  The morning sun usually greets our country, but on this day of days, it was greeted by the people of our land.
National Independence Day celebrations kicked off at daybreak with the ceremonial firing of the historic national relic Artillery Piece, known affectionaly as "Old Smokee"  - a signal gun used during the Bongolesian War of Independence.
With a loud, eardrum bleeding "WHOOSH POP BANG!", the day for celebrating our national independence had begun.

PARADES EVERYWHERE!

Of course and for sure, the main national parade was an amazing sight to behold as our people marched and sang and shouted and celebrated!

(Can't you hear those stomping feet?....NDF Soldiers march on parade. Our gallant boys in green show off their skills at cadenced marching and keeping in step.)

(While other members of our defense forces kept a watchful eye out for trouble on this glorious day....)

Everywhere you looked there were smiles and happiness throughout the crowds of happy Bongolesians. The children were especially happy to see the NDF men and their precision marching....

Among some of the more popular groups in the National Parade were a slew of lovely ladies in "The Blue Babee's Dance Troupe"...Out to show their stuff, and put it out there where it is...

Whoomp! There is it!  All ladies dance troupe parading before the turgid citizens in today's parade....

And their performances were highly appreciated.....

CULTURAL EXHIBITS SHOW THINGS OFF TO OTHER PEOPLE.....

(Nationwide): Among the many celebrations taking place in the country today, are the many, many festivals of the local native tribal groups.
Among these were members of the famous and fearless Z'bunga tribe of the Central Interior.
While performing their ritual dances, they sang in an amazing tone.

While listening to the singing and watching the mass movements, one of the locals did say, "Well....they have a good bass section....but no top tenor...."

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Today's speech from His Excellency, President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah....

(Sudekia):  Greetings to all Bongolesian's and citizens of our wonderful nation, distinguished guests, donors and beneficiaries, and other folks that are listening in on this....

Today is our day of National Independence....and with it....our day of re-committing ourselves to be who we can best be at the best time to be it.

It was on the twenty second of October in the year 1960, that our nation and the groundwork for who we are and what we are now, was first laid.

Like a bird in a nest, grunting out the egg, our land and our people came into being, and the nation has "hatched".

It is here that I say to the world; that we are a member of the world of nations and while we are friendly and open and caring to those that would do their bestest and help get us what we want, we must also say that we keep a watchful eye on those folks in those third world hellholes that would wish to try to get the jiggy on us and see bad things happen to us, (And you know who you are).

I say to the people of world....look upon us...with our bright eyes, and outstretched palms....

And welcome us with gifts......of friendship....fellowship...and many many other good things that we work hard to get from you.

Workbench update!

Well it's been a bit since I have updated everyone here on what I have going on with Bongolesia on my workbench. To be honest, most of the stuff was put on the back burner while I took a break from 15's and did some 28mm Pulp figs. Now that I have them out of the way thought, I thought I would go ahead and get back into finishing up some of my 15mm stuff...

The workbench/table is kind of full right now...

I am happy to report that I have completed 13 more stands of NDF troops, which equals out to approx 37 figs. This will be the last of the NDF "Boys in Green".

I've also essentially finished the coastal patrol boat, "Moesha".

Both of these are waiting for warmer weather to be sealed and they are done.

The BNINF (Bongolesian Naval Infantry), is 3/4 of the way done. This will be about a dozen stands of Naval Troops used for coastal security operations.
I should have them done within the next week or so.

On top of that, I've started working on a new problem for Bongolesia.......

An AH1 for Air Support, Some M41's for Medium Armor, and an M42 Duster for AA protection)

Battlefront had a sale for the month of March you see....
They had 40% off on their Vietnam War stuff, so I made an order. I still have some M113's, some M48's, an M577, and a Recoilless Rifle Team on their way. Soon B'wonah is gonna have to get serious about his Southern Neighbor.

But we can't let Fandango have ALL the fun now can we?

(Better armed and armored than the standard troops trucks and just as noisy too!)

This will probably be the last of the regular equipment purchases for the NDF/Presidential Guard. After that I think I have all for the governmental forces.

My game plan is to get this stuff done quickly, and finish up The Presidential Palace once and for all. I swear it's becoming my albatross.

Then I need to get back to work on my MEU.....I'm still looking for 1/100th scale CH47's (at a decent price), and V22 Ospreys, and I will be making some quick and dirty mockups of LCAC's since the DRAGON model is almost 50 bucks per kit...no thank you....

Bongolesian Diplomat Offers Assistance

Diplomat offers to meet with Alcovian leaders and " Help get stuff settled"....

(Sudekia)  With the growing crisis in the Ukraine making headlines all over the world, The National Government today announced that they have been actively monitoring the situation with our good friend, The Nation of Alcovia.
"Alcovia's really a nice place to see once all the snow melts and it warms up again and their plumbing thaws out" A National Government spokesman said during a recent press conference. "It's just too bad and sad and bad juju when they decide to go at each other and cause all sorts of problems that can be resolved one way or the other. We've felt sorry for their ongoing crisis, and know that we can offer them all sorts of assistance and expertise on getting jiggy and getting it done!"

To this effect, his Excellency, President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah, approved sending one of Bongolesia's top diplomats to Alcovia to meet with the leaders of both sides to see "what's going down.", and to seek a proper resolution.

"Bongolesian Foreigh Affairs Experat and Tip-Top Diplomat, W'atsit T'uyoo and his staff are ready to make haste to Alcovia, to show our friends that we can help and when we help, EVERYBODY can get some...We come in peace and look forward to doing our bestest on the world stage of international feel goods..." The National Spokesman continued to say.

A diplomatic telegram has been sent to Alcovia two factions offering Bongolesian Diplomatic Arbitration of the issue. The National Government is awaiting an answer."

President celebrates 29th birthday in Sudekia with celebrations around the nation!


(Sudekia)  All of Bongolesia is involved in the happiness of this day as His Excellency, President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah celebrates his 29th Birthday today at The Presidential Palace.

"It's a great day to be 29!" The President said amid the chorus of "Happy Birthday Mr. President" sung by the girls choir of Chumba' wumba High School and Pre-University.

"To listen to the love and affection that they sing for my birthday....It just touches my heart." The President said with tears of gratitude in his eyes as he looked at the young ladies performing for him. 

A formal birthday luncheon for today is planned for all national dignitaries and governmental heads, and a formal birthday dinner, reception, and ball will be held this evening at the Presidential Palace for visiting dignitaries and ambassadors.  Dress code is formal, and RSVP please....

We here in The Nation of Bongolesia wish our beloved President a very happy birthday!!!!

Wow...7 years...and still going....

Once again my little child continues to grow and get another year older...

Although I have NOT been as active with it this year as I have wanted to; we have seen the following happen:

1: I've created the first elements of The Bongolesian Navy, (to include Naval Marines).
2: I've painted up the first "enemy armor" from their neighbor to the South, The Fandango Republic.
3: I've painted up another unit of NDF troops.

My focus lately has been more on 28mm figs than my 15's. But once I finish this current project I am on, I will be back to getting more Bongolesian goodness going...

And, it wouldn't be the same without you, dear readers and supporters...

I am always humbled and honored and in awe when people discuss my blog, and talk about how much they like it. I never expected this, and for those that have used it as inspiration for their own nations, I am truly honored. May your flags forever fly high...

FESTIVITIES GOES OFF WITHOUT A HITCH, OR A COUP!!!!!

(Sudekia): The Glorious Nation of Bongolesia and it's people under the wise and ever all knowing and benevolent government of His Excellency President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah, celebrated The National Day of Independence today throughout the country with parades, prayers, celebrations, patriotic speeches and remembrances.

Our beloved National Flag, flapping high in the breeze, letting you know what it is...

From the local children's parade and landmine strut outside of Lonnieville to the ever growing and popular "Barb-wire Hoedown" in Port Tuziak, the people of Bongolesia celebrated their national day of supposed Freedom and assumed Independence.

OUR BELOVED NATIONAL LEADER

Speaking from The Presidential Palace, (The Pink Palace), His Excellency, President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah spoke of this glorious day.

"It just fills my heart with such gladness and joy to see our folks lovin' what they get and what they got comin' to them. It's been a long, rocky, pothole filled dirt road that we have forced others to travel upon to get where we are today, but I promise you that the ordeal was worth it. We know who we are, and we are here to show the world who we are what it is!"

His Excellency was going to be spending the day in conferences and reviewing contestants for the upcoming "Miss Banana Chip 2013" at the upcoming National Banana Chip Festival.

"That ain't working....that's the way you do it!"  

The nationally acclaimed Bongo Group, "The Bongoleers" pose before their concert in Clarksville.  Tickets were sold out fast for this show...

Meanwhile, lets not forget our gallant "Boys In Green" who even on this day, stand ready to defend our nation against those who would do us harm, or attempt to collect on debts, (real or imagined).... Here we see a tank and crew from 1st Bongolesian Armored (aka: "The Fighting Jujus"), parked near Bomb'a De Plane International Airport in Sudekia.

Indeed what would a country be without it's music?

Our nation is filled with all sorts of talent, (real and otherwise). Among the many concerts and shows given this day to the masses (for a small price), are Bongolesian International Recording Superstars Buddy Bongo (above), and P'nut Lohg singing their critically reviewed hits "There's A Crocodile In The River", and "I Didn't Know She Was Married!!!", among other things. Buddy has been known sometimes to even break out some of his older hits such as "Landmine Blues", and "What's That Sound?"

Much music and fun and dancing was had by all!

 One of the many fans of P'nut Lohg, (Who has sold more records in SE Central Africa than Slim Whitman)....

 

Dancing The Night Away....Festive and Happy Citizens dance into the late hours to music and celebrations of the nations independence.

With congratulatory notes coming from a wide variety of countries, including China, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Chad, Cuba, The Democratic Republic of The Congo, Chechnya, and many others, Bongolesia is truly a nation among nations!!!!

NATIONAL POST OFFICE RELEASES FIRST STAMP IN NEW COMMEMORATIVE SERIES....

(Sudekia):  The National Post Office today proudly revealed the first stamp in the new commemorativer series titled "Honoring Those That Help Bongolesia".

The first stamp to be released in the series is of that International Debonair Man of The Hour, and Cinema Icon and Legend, Mr. Alan Alda...

A National Postal Spokesman explained the stamp to a frenzied media...

"Alan Alda has used his charm, amazing charisma, and intelligence and his knowledge of Bongolesia to assist us in various international affairs. By keeping the American Government on it's toes and not trying to burrow into our business, he has, with the assistance of numerous extra-frothy latte's topped with fresh whipped cream and double sprinkled with cinnamon, worked tirelessly for the welfare of our nation to get what is coming to us, and what we deserve. We feel that this is a great way to say "Thanks!" for a job well done!"

 

Other stamps will be released in the series and are sure to become a valued and treasured collectors item...

(SUDEKIA): Sources in Bongolesia report that the border crisis between Bongolesia and it's Southern neighbor  The Fandango Republic, seems to be worsening by the day. Reports from the nearby city of Lonnieville confirm that refugees are already fleeing the Southern area and moving towards the imagined safety of the interior as the military prepares to increase it's presence in the area.

"We've seen people moving this way all day coming from the South." said a Lonnieville citizen. "We tell them that they have to keep moving because there is no room at the inn.", confirming suspicions that all available lodging has been taken up already by those able to do so.

Scores of refugees have been seen moving forward through the town, carrying whatever possessions they can carry with them. Everywhere is the feeling that the storm clouds of war are soon to be unleashed upon the southern area of the land.

The Southern area of Bongolesia has been relatively spared from the ongoing chaotic and sporadic fighting between the national government of President B'wonah and the Bongolesian African Revolutionary Front (BARF), as they continue to try to overthrow the current regime and install one of their own., that is seen mostly in the Central and Northern parts of this country.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of the chaotic situation, certain unlawful elements in the nearby Southern towns and villages attempt their hand at causing civil unrest to cover for looting and other criminal activities. Local police are hard pressed to maintain control and do it in just about anyway possible, short of using live ammunition...

 (Sometimes...it's the ONLY thing they will understand...)

Bongolesian local police use hard action to discourage criminals and looters from causing problems during this crisis...

PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS THE COUNTRY THIS EVENING....

(Sudekia): Bongolesian National Spokesman Sp'in Dok'tur has announced that His Excellency, President-For-Life P'hat Daddee B'wonah, will address the nation on radio and television this evening, concerning the current crisis.

(Reports indicate that the President is "deeply concerned" about the situation with The Fandangonians and will address the nation this evening on events pertaining to it.)

"Make no mistake about it, my friends." Spokesman Dok'tur said to a bevy of reports this morning. "His Excellency knows how to deal with these hooligans (and they know who they are), along our border and will do his duty and utmost in making sure that they get what they are looking for. The nation and the people follow him blindly in good faith and will get on the humpty-humpty to ensure our nation comes out of this on top!"

UN COMMANDER DISCUSSES CURRENT SITUATION!

(Port Tuziak): During a routine inspection of many of the United Nations Peacekeeping troops on various duties here within the nation, the Commanding Officer of the Forces took a few moments out to discuss the situation with reporters.

"Mein Headquarters has not informed me of any orders for me to move mein troops und panz..errr...vehicles vorwards into any type of combat operations. I have been assigned here to oversee the duties of the Peacekeepers under mein command, and until I am told otherwise, that is what I will do."  said General Hans von KinderSchlager as he inspected troops at Port Tuziak.

Currently, there has been no word from the UN on what to do in case fighting does break out between the two countries. An emergency meeting on the situation is scheduled for next Tuesday at 1:30 pm at the UN building in New York. There, the assistants of the Security Council will meet with diplomats to both nations and try to figure out a workable peaceful solution. 

Gen. KinderSchlager was hopeful of the situation as he inspected the UN troops and clicked his heels together. "Ja. I do think that the UN will find a way to oversee this current issue and perhaps I will be needed to push mein truppen und panz...errr....resources vorwards to ensure that the peace is kept."
